Growing Practices

We grow for the health of our community, and the health of our planet.

ALL Natural, ALL organic

We use all organic practices. Although we are not officially certified, we are everything but the certification. We NEVER use synthetic fertilizers, sprays, pesticides or herbicides.

Instead, we place a heavy emphasis on crop health & plant nutrition. We believe that healthy plants grown in healthy soil should have natural immunity to pests and disease. We apply compost, use cover crops to improve soil fertility, and re-mineralize the soil with organic mulches and fertilizers.

We try to disturb the soil as little as possible, so as to leave intact the soil health and biology. We use a minimal-till market garden system. We use a BCS walk-behind tractor and associated implements for bed prep, especially a power harrow for gentle incorporation of compost and fertilizer.

Food as medicine

We strive to grow the very best food possible. Food with all of the vitamins and minerals that are supposed to be there! In 2022, we began utilizing sap analysis to analyze the comprehensive mineral/nutrient content of certain crops in order to optimize nutrition.

We believe food with high nutritional content should have outstanding flavor! This kind of quality produce is not easy to come by these days. There’s a reason why our customers keep coming back for more.

Farming on such a small scale, we always opt for quality over quantity. We are going for maximum nutrition, on minimum acreage. All our produce is mindfully tended, harvested, and packed with the utmost care.

Taking Care Of the Land

Lastly, we wouldn’t be farmers if it wasn’t for our love for the great outdoors. We are wholeheartedly committed to helping protect and regenerate the health of the water, soil, and wildlife, both now and for generations to come. Some of the ways we do this are by managing our farm as an ecosystem, providing food and habitat for beneficial insects, pollinators, and wildlife, protecting and planting native species, using cover crops, managing nutrients and soil to minimize runoff and erosion, and by using minimal-till market gardening techniques that enhance soil health.
